Over the weekend we held our annual Earth Day event. What a fantastic weekend with delicious food, musicians and lots of vendors. Here are a few snapshots of the day!

Just last week, we held our 2023 Rotary Foundation Dinner. 🥂 This event celebrates the good work of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.  It is a joint event sponsored by the Bishop, Bishop Sunrise, and Mammoth Lakes Rotary clubs. 

We were honored to have our keynote speaker, Steve Lewis, a Past District Governor and Former District Foundation Chair.  District Governor, Jeff Gabriel, spoke as well and presented Foundation recognitions such as Paul Harris Fellows one of them given to his sister, Marlene Gabriel.

Celeste is eager to open her mystery package, which turned out to be a really cool gardening assortment.  She was happy no one stole it! 

Laura opens her first package -- a "honey do" hammer which was later graciously stolen so Laura could try again.  After many such opened and stolen gifts, Laura ended up stealing a Mammoth beanie from Victor!

Jackie worked hard to open this package, which was loaded with an assortment of smaller miscellaneous items.

Bishop Rotarian Robert Atlee and Sunrise Rotarians John Loomis and Ed Morse really generated some donation energy!

Runners are ready to go at the 2022 Santa Mile event on December 3rd, hosted by Bishop Sunrise Rotary, with all proceeds going to Polio Plus -- Rotary International's decades-long campaign to eradicate polio (and we're almost there).  Many thanks to all the participants and to our business sponsors: Mountain Rambler Brewery, Looney Bean Coffee, Laws Railroad Museum and Historic Site, and Black Sheep Coffee.  And congrats to the fastest three finishers: males Colin Bogdan (1st), Alexander Adkins (2nd), and Denzel Gomez (3rd); and females Marie Fitt (1st); Catie Grisham (2nd); and Carolyn Tomer (3rd).

Bishop Sunrise Rotary is thrilled to unveil its beautiful new trading banner, which was designed by local artist Julie Faber with input from the club.  Trading banners are exchanged with other clubs for their banners, typically when a member of one club visits another club.  Thanks Julie for your generous donation of time and talent!  Your work will serve the club for countless years to come.

On November 2, 2022, the Club held a social event honoring certain Non-Rotarians with Paul Harris Fellows for their volunteer work on the Club's project to provide much-needed medical supplies, equipment, and professional training to medical clinics in Chiapas, Mexico (a very rural, remote area of Mexico).  The project has been funded by global grants from the Rotary Foundation.  Bishop Sunrise Rotarian Ramona Delmas has spearheaded the project since its inception.  Honorees were local OB-GYN doctors Martha Kim and Jeanine Arndal, interpreters Jose Garcia and Julie Burns, and Rick Delmas (the "detail man").  Event attendees included two Interact Club officers, an RYE student and her host family, and members of the Rotary Club of Bishop (the noon club).

Bishop Sunrise Rotarian Ramona Delmas presented a moving PowerPoint explaining the history of this amazing service project, which she has spearheaded from day one.  Ramona received a well-deserved standing ovation for her work.

Paul Harris Fellow recipient OB-GYN doctor Martha Kim, who went to Chiapas multiple times to help train the doctors there.  Fellow OB-GYN Jeanine Arndal was also honored but was under the weather and unable to attend in person.

Paul Harris Fellow recipient Jose Garcia, an expert translator who has volunteered countless hours in support of the Chiapas project.  Fellow translator Julie Burns was also honored but was unable to attend in person.

We had a special offsite, outdoor meeting and tour on September 7, 2022, at Laws Railroad Museum and Historic Site. The weather cooperated and the morning temps were delightful. The meeting started with a bell ringing, as usual, but it was the bell of the #9 Slim Princess train! Many thanks to Bishop Sunrise Rotarians (and Laws volunteers) Jay Smart and Sarah Sheehan, and Laws administrator Raven Angeles, who put everything together for our special visit. What a treat!

On August 31st, we had an evening social event at Millpond in lieu of our regular morning meeting (which was dark per the club's practice of not meeting on "fifth Wednesdays").  Several members of the Bishop Rotary Club (the noon club) also attended, which added to the fun.  We had games, including a really fun trivia game put together by John Loomis where four teams competed for prizes, and lots of great potluck food.

John is in Alaska for the summer, sailing his boat. Incidentally, our club is planning on redesigning our trading banner this year.
